Sound
I use synthetic and acoustic sound to explore the material texture of our being and the affective meanings beyond linguistic signification that abound around us. While working for games and films, I also experiment with the narrative structures of melodies and harmonies and the cultural and emotive functions of different timbres.
linguistic islands (2022)
When visual representation may seem overly immediate, I find sounds to provide the most truthful access to the material presences of people.
I asked six important friends to record themselves counting in a language of their choice – Berlin in German, Beijing in Spanish, Paris in Mandarin, Shanghai in Japanese, New York in French and Shanghainese. I myself recorded English that dissolves in my room on Pardee Street of Easton, Pennsylvania.
We are all linguistic islands floating away from the continent of our mother tongue, as I attempt to grasp my materiality through the silhoulettes of their voices counting.
lurking stall (2022)
Rhythm falters so mind flutters. Things are always slightly off. What is haunting is the need for category, order, and control.
Mirror Light, Eternal Night (2021)
Score for my game based on Greek mythology and history.
Score for Fishing Nights (2021), a short film about Chinese folk superstition and modern objectification.
